First, check one important page
Choose your homepage or a service page you want customers to find. Open it in a private browser window and follow the route from the homepage. If it requires a login, displays an error or has no visible link leading to it, fix that access problem first.
In Google Search Console, inspect the exact page address. Its indexing result is more useful than guessing from one search. Use the live test to investigate access problems, and read the stated reason if the page is excluded.
Find accidental blocks
A site launched from a development environment may still have a setting that asks search engines not to index it. Other pages may be excluded intentionally, such as account areas. Ask the person managing your website to check whether your public service pages have the right search visibility settings.
Our free audit stops inspecting a page when it detects a noindex instruction. It lists that page separately, so you can decide whether excluding it is appropriate.
Explain what your business actually offers
A page called “Home” with a short welcome message gives prospective customers little to work with. A useful service page explains the service, the customer it is for, how the work happens and how to enquire.
For example, a bookkeeping business might replace “Our services” with a page that explains monthly bookkeeping, who handles the accounts, what the client provides and how to request a consultation.
Review how your pages appear in search
Give each important page a descriptive title. Add a useful, distinct meta description to support its search preview. Google may select different text for a particular search, so write the page itself clearly too.
If Google has indexed it, look at visibility
Use Search Console’s Performance report to see which searches show your pages and which receive clicks. A page appearing for the wrong topic needs a different response from a page that has not been indexed. Compare the customer’s question with what the page answers.
Make the next step easy
Being found is only part of the journey. Put your service details, relevant examples and a clear contact route where visitors can use them. Check that links to your enquiry form, booking page or shop actually work.
